Mount Crushmore 2025:
A Collaborative Youth Mural Project
Debuting Juneteenth 2025
Mount Crushmore 2025 is a dynamic, student-led mural initiative celebrating culture, identity, and resilience. In honor of Juneteenth, students from across Placer and Sacramento County are coming together to design and paint a 24x8ft traveling mural featuring powerful BIPOC figures—locally or globally known—who reflect their values and community pride.
More than just a public art project, Mount Crushmore 2025 empowers youth to reclaim and reimagine the concept of monuments. Through leadership roles, research, and hands-on artmaking, students will explore history, strengthen their voices, and gain valuable skills in mural design, digital tools, and collaborative creation.
Why It Matters
This project centers youth voices in historical storytelling and representation—challenging traditional monuments and creating space for inclusion, identity, and artistic expression. The mural will premiere at Blue Line Arts and travel to local venues as a symbol of youth empowerment and collective heritage.
Led by Artist & Educator Leon Willis

Supported by Community Partnerships
